Rec Under 11 Age Group and Older
What is U11 Age Group and Older Soccer?
The Club’s older age group programs place an increasing on team soccer skills. While devolping individual skills is still part of the program, more and more time is devoted to the team aspects of the sport. At the Under 11 (U11) and Under 12 (U12) levels, kids continue to play small-sided soccer in an 8v8 format. Beginning with the Under 13 (or U13) age group, the kids play in an 11v11 format. Recreational teams are formed for both the girls division and the boys division for age groups U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18 and U19. The teams play in the MARS League and play teams from surrounding communities. Each child plays at least half of every game. It is the Club’s hope and objective to make the experience fun and rewarding for all the kids participating.
Who can participate?
Boys and girls whose birthdates fall within the specified time periods are eligible to play U11 and older soccer. To determine your child’s appropriate age group, click here to return to the Age Group Chart.
When do the kids play?
The U11 and older age group season is a ten (10) week season. The spring season begins in late February and ends in the middle of May. The fall season starts at the beginning of September and continues through the middle of November. The teams generally have two practices and one game per week.
Where do the kids play?
Players in the U11 and older age groups practice and play their home games at the Vestavia Hills Sports Complex at Liberty Park. Away games are played at soccer fields in surrounding communities. Teams also may choose to play in local recreational soccer tournaments and may elect to participate in the Chevy Governor’s Cup Tournament.
What equipment is needed to play?
All recreational players will purchase new team jerseys as dictated by club...
- Cost for set of jerseys (2), black shorts (1), black socks (1): runs around $30-$40.
- Shinguards are required and must be purchased separately.

How can I help with U11+ Soccer?
Adult volunteers are always needed for the U11 and older age groups! If you are interested in being a head coach or an assistant coach, please so indicate on your registration form or contact the appropriate Age Group Commissioner. After the teams are formed and coaches assigned, each team will need a Team Parent to assist the team coaches with administrative duties, including the preparation of a snack schedule, indicating whose turn it is to bring team snacks and planning the team’s end of the season trophy party. If you are willing to serve as a Team Parent, please so indicate on the registration form or let your coach know of your willingness to help out.
