96 Steamers Black Capture U14 Championship |
The 96 Steamers Black won the Vulcan Cup by beating the Augusta Arsenal from Georgia 4-2 in the finals. Along the way they beat BRSC Black out of Louisiana 3-0, tied KFC Crush from Tennessee 0-0, and beat Ambush Elite from Georgia 1-0. Way to go boys and Coach Luke Whittle.

97 Steamers Black Bring Home The Gold in the U13 Vulcan Cup |
The 97 Steamers had an exciting weekend at the Vulcan Cup, as they blanked Mississippi BFC White 2-0, blanked Briarwood 4-0, and came back to tie the Tennessee Falcons 1-1 to get to the finals, where they prevailed in pk's against the Manderville Lakers from Louisiana. Congratulations to the boys and coach Rocky Harmon.

Despite playing on different teams through the fall season, the 98 Steamers Black came together in fine fashion for the Vulcan Cup, winning all their games by a combined score of 23-1, including a 4-0 victory in the final vs Briarwood. Congratulations to the boys and coach Luke Whittle.

Two Vestavia 'Keepers Picked For National Events

Elijah Gibson from our Steamers 93 and Sarah Story from our Attack 92's have both been named to the Region III Olympic Development teams that will compete over the holiday break. Sarah will participate in the 2009 US Youth Soccer ODP Girls Winter Interregional event in Ridgeland, Miss., while Elijah will be down at Disney's Wide World of Sports, holding down the nets for the Region III '93's against the other three regions as they compete for National Team berths. Good luck to both of these great players, they have already done the club proud, and we wish them much success in the coming weeks.
Steamers '97 White Win Again

The Steamers 97 White had a great showing in the Nike Cup held in Atlanta December 5-6th. Led by 'keepers Trevor Freeman and Rhyne Mills, the boys combined for 4 straight shutouts on their way to a pk shootout victory in the finals over the East Ridge Express from Chattanooga. Congratulations to the boys and guest coach Rocky Harmon.
'97 Attack Finalist in GIT

Congratulations go out to our '97 Attack, as they had a good showing at the GIT Invitational in Memphis the weekend of November 21-22. They started off the weekend beating the CSA Lady Lobos 2-1, and followed that up with a 0-0 tie against the Michigan Rush and a 1-0 win over the Arkansas Comets. That set up a great final against FC Dallas, where the girls lost 3-1. Job well done for the girls and coach Jason Woody Woodall.
Girls U12 River Plate Shine at Triumph Cup

Our U12 girls team, 98 Attack River Plate, went undefeated in the Triumph Cup, held November 21-22 in Atlanta. The girls beat Tophat in a come from behind 3-1 thriller, then followed that up with another come from behind victory, a 5-1 victory over host club TYSA. Unfortunately, rain washed out the rest of the tournament and the girls had to settle for Finalist placement based on points. Great job girls and guest coach Rocky Harmon - go River Plate!
Steamers 94 White State Cup Finalist

Our Steamers 94 White had a great two weekends on their way to an improbable spot in the finals of the DII State Championship. On Saturday the boys beat BUSA East 5-1 to earn a place in the finals, where they lost in penalty kick shootout to Tuscaloosa Arsenal after the teams were tied 1-1 after regulation and overtime. This was a great run for a completely new team, and all the boys and coach Pat Flinn are to be congratulated.
U16 Girls Win State Championship

Led by a stout defense and some timely goal scoring, the 94 Attack won the Alabama Youth Soccer Association Division II State Championship on November 14th, Keeper Chandler Ingram went unscored in the tournament. In group play, the team tied Hoover 0-0, and beat Arab and a Mobile 1-0. The team finished off their weekend by beating Mobile 2-0 in the final. Congratulations to the girls and coach Ken Headley.
