Welcome to the PELÉ Program:

The PELÉ Program is designed to enhance the player development of both boys and girls at Vestavia Hills Soccer Club through professional training of the U09 and U10 age groups.

PELÉ – The King of Football

Pele.jpg

Edison Arantes do Nascimento, (born 23 October 1940), best known by his nickname PELÉ is a retired Brazilian Football (Soccer) player. While his birth certificate shows his first name as Edison, it is as Pelé that he has become a sporting legend. He is widely regarded by polls among football experts, former players and fans as the greatest footballer of all time. (Please visit our website at www.vestaviasoccer.com for a full bio on PELÉ)

Highlights of the PELÉ Program include:

  • Age appropriate curriculum based training.
  • National and State Licensed coaches to execute the curriculum.
  • Team training with tournament and non-league game travel

PELÉ Program:

  • PELÉ Juniors Program – train and play (select dates) within PELÉ Program; train with PELÉ, play games with REC teams
  • PELÉ Program – train and play completely within the Pele Program (no REC soccer) with Team Training Camp (1 week intensive training camp during preseason Fall (August) and Spring (February)

PELÉ Program Goals:

  • Create a non-stress atmosphere where U09 and U10 players are exposed to the game with an emphasis on skill development.
  • Create an environment where players are allowed to flourish in a competitive arena in which winning is not a determinant of success, where the repetition of quality is more important than short-term success.
  • Educate the players and parents in the development process and club values.
  • Create the needed flexibility in the program rules in which teaching takes precedence over game administration. The only outcomes measured are learning and fun and not scores and standings.

PELÉ Program Rules:

  • All players will be registered through the state and be on a VHSC recreational team.
  • All players will be evaluated for the purpose of placing them in the appropriate developmental program.
  • Training will be conducted by nationally and state licensed coaches and have a curriculum approved by the Technical Director.
  • Players will receive a written evaluation once a season charting their progress and individual development plans will be provided to the parents.
  • Conduct of coaches and players will be held to the standards specified by VHSC and AYSA.

PELÉ Program Q & A:

Q: What is the practice requirement for the U09/U10 PELÉ Program?

A: Actually, that depends on which program you choose to enter into within the Program. We actually have 2 programs under the PELÉ umbrella!:

  • U09/10 PELÉ Juniors Program: One practice per week, August thru November (Fall) and February thru May (Spring), and 2 training sessions with your REC teams (play games with REC teams); some weekend training sessions as well.
  • U10 PELÉ Training Program: Three 1.5-hour practices per week, August thru November (Fall) and February thru May (Spring), ALL games and training are done within the PELÉ Program with all games and training staff with VHSC licensed Coaches / Trainers.

Q: Do the PELÉ Training Program participants form their own teams and play a separate schedule from the PELÉ Juniors Program and REC Programs?

A: Yes! The PELÉ Training Program is designed to players and families the experience of full competitive soccer at U10. The PELÉ Players will form their own teams that are coached by VHSC professional staff coaches in seasonal and tournament play.

Q: Is the PELÉ Program Co-ed?

A: Yes! The PELÉ Program is Co-ed forming both boys and girls teams!

Q: Can my son or daughter play U10 PELÉ Program if they are really a U09? What about a U10 wanting to play up in Competitive U11 AOE?

A: Absolutely! However, all players must be evaluated first. ALL play-ups must get approval of the Technical Director. Likewise for those U10 players wanting to play up in U11… all are subject to approval by Technical Director. Remember, PELÉ himself was just 16 years old when he made his national team and only 17 when he won his first World Cup! Wow!

Q: What is the game requirement for the U10 PELÉ Program?

A: U10 PELÉ Juniors Program: All players within the PELÉ Juniors Program train with the PELÉ Juniors Program and return to their respective recreational team for games on the weekends. The PELÉ Juniors Program will play 2- 4 play dates with other Academies. Players within the PELÉ Juniors Program are expected to attend all PELÉ Juniors Program planned events unless conflicting with their recreational team.

PELÉ PROGRAM: All players within the PELÉ PROGRAM will train and play completely within the PELÉ PROGRAM in MARS and/or AYSA.

Q: What is the tournament requirement for the U10 PELÉ Juniors Program?

A: There is no requirement for the regular PELÉ Juniors Program. However PELÉ PROGRAM will participate in 2-3 tournaments per season. Generally looking at 1-2 tournaments in the Fall – mid-season and end of season; and 2-3 tournaments in the Spring – pre-season, mid-season, and end of season (travel and entry fees to tournaments are supplemental to the general PROGRAM AND PELÉ PROGRAMS).

Q: How do I enroll for the U10 PELÉ Program?

A: General admittance into the PELÉ Juniors Program Program is by sign up and evaluation. Admittance and invitation into the PELÉ PROGRAM is by evaluation / tryout process only (these dates and tryouts coincide with competitive team tryouts in June of every year).

Q: What is the deadline for enrollment?

A: August 2010 (PELÉ Juniors Program); however, U10 PELÉ PROGRAM deadline is June (see competitive tryouts)

Q: What is the cost for enrollment into the PELÉ PROGRAMS?
