Steamers 04 Black Win Regionals!
VHSC had a historic Southern Regionals, with two of the five teams advancing out of group play, and one team making history.
The Vestavia Steamers 04 Boys became the second boy’s team in the history of Alabama soccer, and the first in 21 years, to win a regional soccer championship. They beat OK Energy from Oklahoma 2-1 in the championship match at the recent Region III Youth Soccer Nationals Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
The only other Alabama team to win regionals was also from Vestavia, as Coach Shane Amsler‘s Steamers won at U18, also in Greensboro, back in 1997.
The Steamers 04s have been coached for the past four years by Carlo Schiavoni, and were coached by Rocky Harmon and Jarred Brookins at the event. Goalkeeper Sims Tosh was awarded the Golden Glove Award and defender Alan Melendez was awarded the Golden Boot.
A big thanks to our Goalkeeper Coaches AJ Robles and Brad Louis, as well as our traveling trainer Kenny Davis, not to mention chief scout and our Director of soccer Luke Whittle, as well as all the great families that make these successes possible.
Congrats to all five teams for getting to regionals, and good luck to Coach Carlo and the 04’s as they move on to the National Championship in Frisco, Texas, July 24-29.
